Details Frederick Herman was born January 3 1823 in Langenholzhausen, Lippe-Detmold. He married Charlotte Luhman July 16 1848 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There was no qualified person to marry them in the wilderness of Sheboygan County at the time. He died October 9 1881 and is buried in Immanuel Church Cemetery, Town of Herman, Sheboygan County. Frederick and Charlotte were either the first or second couple to be married in the original group of Lipper Settlers. Frederick Herman was a prosperous farmer in the Town of Herman until his death. His farm was 170 acres. Frederick Herman's farm house and barn still stand today. For many years he was a trustee at the Mission Haus, or Mission House, school and seminary. He later donated 7 acres to the Mission Haus so they could expand. Frederick Herman and Charlotte had 8 children. Herman was born on his father's farm which was adjoining the property of the Mission Haus School and Seminary. After attending school at the Mission Haus, he taught school in the city of Manitowoc, which is approximately 40 miles (64 km) from the Town of Herman. In 1876, Herman started the study of medicine with Dr. J. F. Pritchard, and in 1877, he began attendance at Rush Medical College in Chicago. Herman graduated from Rush Medical College on February 24 1880. Herman then practiced medicine in the village of Franklin, which is about 3 miles (5 km) southwest of the farm where he was born. After practicing medicine for 5 years in Franklin, Herman traveled to Europe to continue his medical studies. Herman studied in Gottingen, Vienna, and Heidelberg. In Heidelberg, Herman was awarded the degree of M.D. In 1887, Herman settled into a home and a medical practice in the city of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where he practiced medicine the rest of his life. 3.5 Albert J.
